Toyota programming depends heavily on the era and system. Here's how it breaks down.
Older transponder keys (turn-key)
Many pre-2015 Toyotas use Texas transponder chips (4C, 4D-67 'dot' keys, or 'G' chips) with the TOY43/TOY44 keyway. If you have two existing master keys, several of these support onboard transponder registration; the remote portion is often programmed by a door/ignition sequence. With only one key, equipment is usually required.
Smart Key / push-to-start
Toyota Smart Key systems (FCC families such as HYQ14FBA, HYQ14FBE, HYQ14FBC, HYQ14FLA depending on model/year) generally require Techstream or a capable aftermarket tool to add or reset keys — especially all-keys-lost. The 2014+ 'H' chip (80-bit) in particular needs equipment.
