Frequently Asked Questions
Does my Silverado use a smart key or a regular key?
Both exist, depending on year and trim. Newer Silverados with push-button start use a smart proximity fob; many older ones and base trims use a flip key or a remote-head key with the chip inside. The FCC ID on your current key, listed on every product here, tells you exactly which one you're in.
Can I program a Chevy key myself, or do I need a locksmith?
It depends on the model. A number of 2007 to 2016 Chevys let you add a transponder or remote key with an on-board sequence using a key that already works. The push-button PEPS systems and most newer models need a locksmith or dealer tool. Our key programming page breaks down which is which.
What battery does a Chevy fob take?
Most use a CR2032 coin cell that you can swap in under a minute. A few slim remote-head keys use a CR2025 instead, so pop yours open and check before buying a battery.
Do you stock Corvette and Camaro keys?
We do, and both are in the collection above. Corvette systems in particular changed a lot between generations, so match your year and FCC ID carefully before ordering.
My truck's remote start quit but the key still starts the car. Bad fob?
Often it's just a weak battery, since remote-start range drops off first. Try a fresh CR2032. If remote start still does nothing up close with a good battery, that function on the fob is likely failing and a replacement will fix it.
