Push-to-start smart key — do it yourself
Your Buick has the relearn built in. You’ll need the new key’s emergency blade cut to your car first (any shop can do it). Then pick the path that fits your situation.
If you have two working smart keys (about 10 minutes)
- Place both working smart keys in the cupholder.
- On the driver’s door, pop off the lock-cylinder cap to the right of the handle — slip the door key into the slot underneath and lift the cover off.
- Insert the new key’s cut emergency blade into that lock and turn to UNLOCK five times within 10 seconds. The dash will read “Ready for Remote #3.”
- Lift the tray and rubber mat in the center console and set the new key in the transmitter pocket. Press ENGINE START/STOP — the dash confirms when it’s learned.
- Take the key out and press LOCK or UNLOCK to finalize. Hold START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit, then test.
If all your keys are lost (about 30 minutes, no tools)
- Pop the driver’s-door lock cap as above, insert the cut emergency blade, and turn to UNLOCK five times within 10 seconds. The dash reads “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
- Wait 10 minutes until the dash says “Press Start Button to Learn,” then press START/STOP. Repeat that wait-and-press three times total — the car is making sure no one’s stealing it.
- After the third round the dash reads “Ready for Remote #1.” Set the key in the transmitter pocket, press START/STOP, then press LOCK or UNLOCK to finalize. Hold START/STOP 12 seconds to exit, and test.
Flip key & chipped key — do it yourself
Buick’s immobilizer relearn is built into the car — no tools either way. Add a spare in minutes if you have a working key, or do the timed relearn if you’re starting from scratch.
Adding a spare (you have one working key — about 5 minutes)
- Insert your working key and turn to ON/RUN (just short of cranking the engine).
- Turn back to OFF/LOCK and remove the key.
- Within 5 seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON/RUN. The security light goes out — that’s it programmed.
- Remove the key to finish. Repeat for any other keys, then test.
All keys lost (no working key — about 30 minutes)
- Insert your new cut key and turn to ON/RUN (don’t crank the engine). The security/immobilizer light comes on.
- Leave it in ON and wait about 10 minutes, until the security light turns off.
- Turn the key OFF for about 5 seconds.
- Repeat that ON → 10-minute wait → OFF cycle three times total (about 30 minutes) — the car relearns the key on the third pass.
- After the third cycle, start the engine to confirm, then test the key.
