Program your Honda remote buttons yourself
Here’s the good news: even though the chip that starts your Honda is programmed by a locksmith, you can sync the remote buttons (lock, unlock, trunk) yourself onboard in a couple of minutes — no tools. Works on most Honda remote-head and flip keys, and you can add up to three remotes.
- Sit in the driver’s seat with all doors closed and unlocked, and put the key in the ignition.
- Do this three times in a row, each step within about 5 seconds: turn the ignition to ON (II — dash lights, don’t start), press and hold LOCK on the remote ~1 second, then turn back to OFF (0).
- Turn to ON a fourth time and press UNLOCK — the door locks cycle to confirm you’re in programming mode.
- Within 5 seconds press LOCK on the remote — the locks cycle again to confirm it’s learned. To add another remote, press its LOCK within 5 seconds (up to three total).
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key. If the trunk button doesn’t respond yet, hold it 5–10 seconds to enable it, then test every button.
