Jeep Key Programming

Here’s how every Jeep key programs. Plain keyless remotes sync onboard yourself; chip keys, remote-head keys, and FOBIK slot-keys you can add at home if you already have two working keys; push-to-start proximity keys need an automotive locksmith. Find your model below.

Add a key yourself — with two working keys

Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge let you add a key at home only if you already have two keys that start the car — no tools. Your new key’s blade must be cut to your vehicle first (any shop can do it). If you have fewer than two working keys, the car needs an automotive locksmith with the security PIN.

  1. Insert the first working key, turn to ON/RUN (engine off) for about 3 seconds, then turn off and remove it.
  2. Within 15 seconds, insert the second working key and turn to ON/RUN. Leave it on for about 10 seconds until you hear a single chime, then turn off and remove it.
  3. Within 60 seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON/RUN. A chime confirms it’s programmed.
  4. Turn off, then start the engine with the new key to confirm. Repeat for any additional keys.

For plain keyless remotes (no chip), the remote buttons sync onboard separately — message us your exact year for that sequence.
