Toyota Key Programming
Like most imports, Toyota has no at-home immobilizer relearn — any key that starts the car (chip, remote-head, or push-to-start smart key) is programmed by an automotive locksmith with a tool, not the dealer, and still well under dealer pricing. The truck & van keyless-entry remotes (Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Sienna, Highlander) you can program yourself. Find your model below.

Keyless-entry remote — program it yourself
Toyota’s standalone truck/van remotes sync onboard with the door-cycle method — about 5 minutes, no tools. (This is for the separate keyless remote; a key with a chip that starts the car still needs an automotive locksmith.)
- With the key out of the ignition, open and unlock the driver’s door.
- Within 5 seconds: insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn) and pull it out — twice.
- Within 40 seconds: close then open the driver’s door twice, then insert the key and pull it out once more.
- Insert the key and turn to ON (don’t start), then back to OFF — the door locks cycle to confirm programming mode.
- Press LOCK and UNLOCK together (then LOCK alone) on each remote; the locks cycle to confirm. Remove the key and test.
